Fell disfranchised? Why not leave?

Do you feel disfranchised by the DNC, either personally (through voter purging, etc) or otherwise? Do you feel that your votes aren't deemed important in deciding the political future of the country? Do you feel that your right to vote is an illusion? An illusion that is kept up only as long as it doesn't actually threaten the status quo.

If yes, then here's an idea: Leave the democratic party. Turn independent. (applies to republicans too, btw.)

Before proceeding further, remember that there are several good reasons not to this. Like if you have a closed primary and your state hasn't voted yet. Or if there's a possibility of re-elections in your state. Right at the bottom is a list of reasons to not do this that I'll keep updated as and when I encounter more.

What will this accomplish? This will send a strong message to those who think that they can shove any candidate down your throat and that you'll fall in line after the primaries, be it the DNC or the mainstream media.

Can this wait until after the primaries? No. If you want instances of disfranchisement, in whatever forms they occur, to reduce in the remaining states (at least a wee bit), this has to happen now.

I am not trying to convince anyone that they're being disfranchised in this post. And I do not welcome comments arguing for or against the same (on this post at least). Comments on what leaving the party can or can't do, potential repercussions, etc will be wonderful.

Spread the message with the hashtag #disfranchisedileave. Remember that short, to-the-point messages are more effective. Long posts like this one are better left as links with your message.

If you end up leaving the party, or at least set things in motion for the same, post an image of the paperwork with the same hashtag.

Feel free to explain why you feel disfranchised, just not in the comments section here.

I'll soon set up a way to keep a tally of how many from each state have done this. If someone can help with that, great.

Reasons to not leave the party, despite feeling disfranchised:
  1. Your state hasn't voted yet, and you have closed primaries.
  2. Your state can potentially have a re-election, and you think it's not worth the risk.
  3. Not a real reason, but have to research California's modified closed primary system. For now, California is a no-go, but I think once I've looked it up, it should be fine. My initial understanding is that it's pretty much an open primary for democrats. Info about this will be awesome.
